A Good Time Away

Remember when I mentioned that Sean and I went on vacation…Well I finally have proof! The past week has gotten away from me and I never got the chance to sit down and write about it. I feel like that’s often the case when I get some time off – things get busier than ever when I get back.

We had a fabulous time in Cape May, NJ! Our vacation planning (like many things we do) was extremely last-minute. I had never been to the beach in New Jersey, and I had no idea what to expect. Cape May turned out to be incredibly quaint and beautiful. We had such a good time down near Exit 0 – I hope we can visit there again!

We have become huge B&B fans – we love the homey atmosphere and we really love the quirks! We booked a room online without too much knowledge about where we were going. We stayed at a place called the Southern Mansion. It was such a beautiful place – although sadly, had few quirks.

The mansion had beautiful gardens…And we equally enjoyed our comfy bed and our delicious breakfasts!

We brought our bikes along and we spent lots of time riding around town, looking at all the great beach cottages, watching the carriage tours go by and scoping out the best of the local food. We definitely found a few favorites:

Friends of Sean’s from work had been to Cape May the week before us. It is one of their favorite spots and to help introduce us to the town, they made up a package of maps (with all their favorite places written in) and a coupon for free gelato at Cone! They hid the map in the center of town behind a small plaque. Sean ended up having to jump into the flower bed to find it! It was such a fun thing for them to do for us!

We spent two full days on the beach. The first day, was on a private beach and the second we spent on the much busier public beach. The first beach was lovely. The water was much calmer, there were lots of dogs to watch play in the sand, we found a bunch of sea life that had washed up on shore and …we managed to burn ourselves to a crisp despite our best efforts with the suntan lotion.

The second day, we got ourselves a big red beach umbrella to sit under. It felt very unbeach-like to me to not be working on our tans…but we had already done enough damage. The waves were fairly good size – so we spent lots of time playing in the waves.

Towards the end of our trip, we stumbled upon a photo booth in the old arcade right on the beach. Of course, I insisted…As you can see – we weren’t really ready for the first flash.

And now…its back to the real world…
